As a contemporary artist, Morenu moves freely between different languages, sometimes constructing cross-disciplinary hybrid works that lead the viewer to reflect on our role in society, with critical elements to politics and social problems, with a different tone than the one we use see in artworks of political content, since there are no political-partisan elements in his work.
“I DEFINE MY WORK AS A BROAD ROUTE BY THE UNIVERSE OF LANGUAGES, WITH TEMPORARY CUTTING EDGES THAT INCLUDE ELEMENTS OF THE ART HISTORY THAT ARE SIGNIFICANT TO ME AND MARKED MY CHILDHOOD AND YOUTH. I AM TALKING HERE ABOUT GERMAN EXPRESSIONISM AND ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM AS DEEP MARKS ALWAYS PRESENT IN MY UNCONSCIOUS, WHICH ARE MATERIALIZED ON MY WORKS FOR A LONG TIME, THAT DOES NOT MEAN WE CAN CLASSIFY MY WORK AS A DERIVED FROM THESE MOVEMENTS, BUT DO AS AN AMALGAME OF MY CONTEXT OF LIFE, WITH SOME DROPS OF THIS OR THAT”
MORENU, BRASÍLIA, 2017
In an interview to the program “ArtistOne” Directed by Markus Avaloni, for Art 1 TV channel.
Thus, Morenu’s work is marked by the constant mutation of contemporary art, moving away from the modernist idea of “style” as a unique and inherent characteristic of the artist.
